Diabetes is a disease in which your blood glucose, or blood sugar, levels are too high. Glucose comes from the foods you eat. Insulin is a hormone that helps the glucose get into your cells to give them energy. Here are diabetes signs.
With type 1 diabetes, your body does not make insulin. With type 2 diabetes, the more common type, your body does not make or use insulin well. Without enough insulin, the glucose stays in your blood. You can also have pre diabetes. This means that your blood sugar is higher than normal but not high enough to be called diabetes. Having pre diabetes puts you at a higher risk of getting type 2 diabetes.
Over time, having too much glucose in your blood can cause serious problems. It can damage your eyes, kidneys, and nerves. Diabetes can also cause heart disease, stroke. Pregnant women can also get diabetes, called gestational diabetes.
Blood tests can show if you have diabetes. One type of test, the A1C, can also check on how you are managing your diabetes. Exercise, weight control and sticking to your meal plan can help control your diabetes. You should also monitor or test your blood glucose level using Alere G1 blood glucose monitoring system and take medicine if prescribed.

Symptoms of diabetes and diabetes signs You May Miss (diabetes mellitus type 2)
1. Weight loss
This is usually a sign of type 1 diabetes, but it sometimes happens with type 2. When the body can’t make insulin, glucose (sugar) from food can’t be used by the body’s cells for energy or stored. In addition, fat starts to break down, making you lose more weight.
2. Slow Wound Healing
Cuts and scrapes heal slowly in a diabetic person as compared to a person who does not have this condition. High blood sugar hardens the arteries, making the blood vessels narrower than usual. This causes less blood flow and oxygen to a wounded area, hence taking more time for the wound to heal.
3. Skin infection
As seen in women is the occurrence of skin infections as well as vaginal yeast infection. Women with diabetes may also experience urinary tract infections very frequently.
4. Tired feeling
Ongoing fatigue is an important symptom of diabetes, diabetes mellitus type 2 to pay attention to; it might mean the food you’re eating for energy isn’t being broken down and used by cells as it’s supposed to. But in many cases of type 2 diabetes, your sugar levels can be elevated for awhile, so these symptoms could come on slowly.
5. Blurred Vision
High blood sugar and diabetes signs leads to changes in the body’s fluid levels. This in turn causes the lenses in your eyes to swell up, affecting your ability to focus. Once the blood sugar level returns to normal, this vision problem resolves.
Although blurry vision may be a sign of diabetes, other common causes are glaucoma, dry eyes, nearsightedness, low blood pressure, an eye infection and even some kind of eye injury.
6. Overeating/Excessive eating
Excessive eating i.e. polyphagia. When a person has this type of diabetes, the level of insulin is very high in the body. As insulin aids in stimulating hunger, too much of insulin in the body may make the person feel hungry and also make them eat more.
7. Numbness in hands or feet
A tingling or numb sensation in the body’s extremities – such as hands and feet – is a common early sign of diabetes. It tends to occur first thing in the morning after you wake up, and can even feel more like a burning sensation.
8. Excessive Urination
One of the earliest diabetes signs of both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes is frequent urination with an abnormally large amount of urine. In medical terms, this classic sign is known as polyuria.
When you have diabetes signs, excess sugar (glucose) builds up in your blood which you can check using Alere G1 blood glucose monitoring system. The kidneys have to work really hard to filter and absorb all that extra glucose.
A persistent need to urinate, especially if you have to get up at night to use the bathroom, is something that you need to take seriously and consult your doctor immediately.
9. Dark ring around the neck
When your body starts pumping out too much insulin—which is common with type 2 diabetes signs—receptors in the skin folds respond by making extra pigment.
10. High blood pressure
It is known to be twice as common in people with diabetes signs. Some doctors in India now screen for Type 2 diabetes by checking blood sugar levels in all of their patients who have high blood pressure, which helps them find some of those hidden cases.
